I am writing to seek your support for an exciting and worthy project. It is one jointly sponsored by the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA,) the Taiwanese Association of America (TAA,) and the World United Formosans for Independence-U.S.A. (WUFI-U.S.A.) The project is called "Taking the Pulse of Taiwan“ a Non-governmental Approach. In brief, FAPA, TAA and WUFI-U.S.A. will sponsor five Congressional aides to embark on a five-day fact-finding trip to Taiwan with the specific aims of networking with and gaining understanding of key groups and individuals outside the KMT government. The original project proposal is attached as a PDF file for your reference. It was passed by the WUFI-U.S.A. Central Committee and then approved unanimously with minor modifications by the FAPA Board of Directors on December 8, 2012 in San Jose, California.
The three organizations sponsoring this project will have the following roles. FAPA will select the five Congressional aides according to a set of criteria. TAA will serve as the funding agency by receiving donations specific for this project and dispensing such fund. WUFI-U.S.A. will take charge of the fundraising in the States while WUFI-World Headquarters will assume the responsibility of hosting the Congressional aides delegation during its entire stay in Taiwan. The delegation will engage Taiwan’s opposition parties and non-governmental organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the aspirations of the Taiwanese people.
The Congressional aides fact-finding trip to Taiwan is scheduled for the Thanksgiving recess this year. The States-side budget for the five Congressional aides is estimated at $22,500. This sum is to come from the Taiwanese-American community. I urge you to contribute generously. Your donation is tax-deductible. Please make your check payable to "TAA" - Write Congress in the memo line and mail the check to:
