Nineteen Taiwanese-American and affiliated organizations have
recently launched a letter-to-President Bush campaign. The
purpose of the campaign is to urge the U.S. government to lift
the State Department ban on visits to America by Taiwan
President and other high-level officials. The strategy of this
grass-root campaign is to request, through the network of our
organizations, the members and their friends and relatives to
sign one letter per person. The letters are to be centrally
collected. We plan to achieve the goal of 10,000 signed letters
by September 15, 2006. Afterwards, the organizations will form a
delegation, composed of the leaders of these groups, to
personally deliver these letters to the White House or State
Department to convey our appeal. Please assist in this campaign
by immediately promoting this letter drive. Kindly send all
completed letters to the following address:

and talk to your Representatives using
the Talking Points.
More than forty Taiwanese organizations from the United States,
Canada, Japan, Europe and South America have jointly issued a
statement (appended below) to announce their support for Taiwan
President Chen Shui-bian’s call for the abolition of the
so-called “National Unification Council” and “National
Unification Guidelines”. They have also launched a grass-root
letter drive as a means of demonstrating the broad backing of
Chen’s initiative. The letter urges Chen to immediately
undertake the necessary steps to achieve said abolition. Ten
thousand signed letters are expected to be collected in six
months.
Several organizations in Taiwan are planning the 312 Rally
throughout Taiwan. The main theme is to raise the awareness of
the increasing military and political threats from China. This
will be a large-scale demonstration, the goal is to have a
million people marching for Taiwan's national security and
proclaiming Taiwan's sovereignty. The true voices of Taiwanese
people must be heard, loud and clear, by the international media
and people.
